2009 Series Roundup — Watchlist and Wishlist
Posted on 07. Jan, 2010 by jusuchin85 in Anime
With the economic turmoil surrounding the entertainment business, you know that anime would definitely be affected in some way or another. However, looking back at 2009, it would seem that there are still gems well hidden beneath the bunch of wannabes. Here’s my ubér short roundup of the year that was in 2009.
Series That I Would Recommend To Anyone
For series that we enjoyed watching, there are some that touched our hearts and make us remember those moments for a long time. These series is a definite recommendation from me to those who have yet to watch them.

Toradora! (J.C. Staff) | Image Source: moe imouto

Bakemonogatari (Shaft) | Image Source: moe imouto

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 (BONES) | Image Source: IndeXdown
Series That I Enjoyed Watching
While there are some that are worth recommending, there are some which I would just say “Yeah, you can enjoy that. Just don’t expect too much from it”. These are the ones I enjoyed watching purely for the sake of entertainment.

CANAAN (P.A. Works) | Image Source: moe imouto

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 S2 (Sunrise) | Image Source: moe imouto
Series I Wished I Never Started/Finished
For all the ones I’ve watched, there are some that just fell short. Either the storyline was not gripping, a definite troll of a series which spurred me away, or reduces my expectation to a mere rubble. Here are the series that I wished I never started or finished…ever.

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu 2009 (Kyoto Animation) | Image Source: moe imouto

BASQUASH! (Satelight) | Image Source: moe imouto

Toaru Majutsu no Index (J.C. Staff) | Image Source: moe imouto

K-ON! (Kyoto Animation) | Image Source: moe imouto
Series I Wished I Watched
Normally, I’m not the one for every series. I’m a particular person when it come to watchlists. Yet, despite my thinking in a narrow viewscape, there are some series that I feel are worth the watch. These series has the very potential to entertain me or even could be in my future recommendation list. Here are the series that I missed watching and wished to have started.

Nyan Koi! (AIC) | Image Source: moe imouto

Spice & Wolf II (Brain’s Base) | Image Source: moe imouto

Darker than BLACK: Ryuusei no Gemini (BONES) | Image Source: moe imouto

Pandora Hearts (XEBEC) | Image Source: moe imouto

Sengoku Basara (Production I.G) | Image Source: The Null Set

Tears to Tiara (White Fox) | Image Source: moe imouto
Series I Wished I Finished Earlier
This is a special category where I place series that took me a long time to finish. This could be because the pacing of the storyline was getting a bit slow that I delayed the series till it ended, or real life matter made me forget about it at all. Either way, I have watched these series and greatly missed the hype about it (if it ever garnered one, that is).

Eden Of The East (Production I.G) | Image Source: moe imouto

Valkyria: Chronicles (A-1 Pictures) | Image Source: moe imouto
Final Word
What do you think? Any series you wished you haven’t started, or any series you wished to have watched? Did I miss out a particularly good series to watch? Discuss in the comments!
Note: This is just a short recap of the year before. I will be giving full reviews to some of the series later on.

Well I havent watch Clannad yet , So That anime is in my watchlist same goes To Aru Majutsu No Index .
The reason why I wanted to watch To Aru Majutsu No Index is because I just watched all 14 episodes of To Aru Kagaku No Railgun and that anime is by far the greatest anime I’ve ever seen its Combonation of Action and Schoolgirls is the best . Even though , I heard from fellow Otakus that Railgun is not a Sequel nor a Prequel of Index but rather an alternate story . A Must Recommended Watch .
I suddenly stopped watching Cannan and Bakemonogatari because of my busy schedule , So I’ll catch up on it later .
Haruhi Suzumiya Season 2 was not really that good because of The Endless Eight but I really enjoyed The Episodes after Endless Eight .
I do admit , K-ON! is not really that good of an anime but its Comedy and Moe-ism really grabbed me not to mention its music . I find K-On a Good anime to watch after a Hard day from studying / work .
I still havent watched TOkyo Magnitude 8.0 though and also Eden of The East , So might give those animes a try .
Now I’m currently going to finish Valkyria Chronicles , Now I’m up to Episode 14 . So far , I’ve been really enjoying the show ^_^

I’d probably mention Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou and Taisho Baseball Girls unless you haven’t seen either of those shows. The former is laid-back iyashikei-type stuff with a few tense moments scattered here and there while the latter is K-ON with much more heart and characters that are far more charming.

@UntoldHero: I heard that To Aru Kagaku no Railgun is a good series; just that I shouldn’t remind myself of Index while watching it, and everything should be entertaining. Should give it a shot later!
I actually enjoyed Haruhi at the first go, but somehow the Endless Eight production spurred me away. I’m not saying that the arc is bad, but the way they portrayed and projected it is bad enough as it is. Marketability is one thing, trolling is another.
Ack, I should finish watching Valkyria Chronicles soon. That series has been in my watchlist for a long, long time (yeah, blame the ‘Clave’ people).
Looking back, maybe I was a bit too harsh about K-ON! being a lousy piece of garbage (yeah, I said that many moons ago). Taking it into substance, I summarise it as something that has no plot whatsoever. Take off the music, then it’s just another low-budget series. Maybe because my mindset is so strict towards “no lighthearted series for you”; that’s why I came with that conclusion.
@zzeroparticle: I never heard of both, but I would check them out. Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou sounds like it would fit my viewing enjoyment after Blood+ (something slow after a fast-paced series) while Taisho Baseball Girls sounds like a “girls vs boys” kinda show. More heart-warming and charming characters? Now that is a definite yes! ^^
Thanks for the recommendation!
