Site Maintenance 101
Posted on 11. Jan, 2010 by jusuchin85 in Site News
On this series of monthly posts (hopefully not!), I'll be posting updates on the site's maintenance issues and upgrades. Here is where you (the visitors) will be able to catch up on what the site has undergone as well as read up on certain issues that made the site go "ga-ga" for a while.
Downtime
If you have noticed today, the site was down for roughly 12 hours. This is due to reports from visitors who pointed out that their comments were appearing on the wrong posts. I checked on it and found out that the theme was broken. However, due to my part time job, I was unable to resolve it at that time until now.
Wordpress is partially to be blamed for this. This problem only occurred after the site went through the core update to 2.9.1. Now I have resolve it, everything is running smooth again. Hopefully, this problem would not occur again in the future.
Comments Area Update
Since I have touched on the comments area, that too went for a slight revamp. You may notice that on every comment posted, there is a "Reply" and "Quote" button. These buttons allow for future interactions between commentators, so I decided to implement it. However, it came at a small price. You may also notice that you cannot edit your comments after you have posted your comment. I've already removed the "WP Ajax Edit Comments" as that clashes with the "Comment Toolbar" plugin. Looking at the bright side though, you now have the added responsibility to check your comment whether there's any mistake whatsoever. Remember, what was said will be recorded so no inflammatory remarks, okay?
Also, there is an area where you can preview your comment before you post it up. It's right after the comment form, so you can look up on any boo-boos on your comment before posting. Greater incentive indeed!
Questions and Comments
Here is where you asked the questions!
Some visitors commented that the "math spam verification" is slightly annoying (since they have to calculate and stuff before posting). I understand your predicaments, so that's where I post a question to you guys. Do you feel that the math spam verification is annoying?
Or better still, any other problems you faced when visiting the site? Don't be shy to mention; I'll do my best to clarify and rectify the problem!

I think the math spam verification is slightly irritating, yes. I like the way it’s done over at Low on Hit Points. With a question from the article itself as the spam verification.

@mefloraine: Ah yes. Now that you’ve mentioned it, I just remember he had a question from the post to prevent spam. Really a good implementation; make readers to read the post before commenting. I’ll check that one out. Thanks, melo-chan! ^^
@Everyone else: Any other ideas/suggestions?
